SANFIC3 2007

SANFIC, Santiago Festival Internacional de Cine, es una plataforma cinematográfica, cultural, industrial, educativa y un símbolo privilegiado de la ciudad.En la tercera versión del festival, SANFIC3, convergen productores, directores, distribuidores, críticos de cine, actores y público en torno a las más recientes y destacadas producciones nacionales e internacionales, entregándole a Santiago y al país un marco único de encuentro, calidad y actualidad.

Los excelentes resultados obtenidos en SANFIC2 –gran afluencia de público, visitas internacionales, calidad de los films exhibidos, amplia cobertura de prensa, diversidad de actividades conexas de alta convocatoria– confirmaron que Santiago se está convirtiendo en un referente de la cinematografía nacional e internacional: una ventana de cultura por la que Chile se asoma y se abre al mundo.En este marco, uno de los objetivos es complementar y potenciar la explosiva industria audiovisual chilena abriendo un espacio para su desarrollo y promoción. Asimismo, SANFIC3 es una vitrina para apreciar primicias y pre-estrenos de películas internacionales de reciente factura y de calidad, tanto de directores de prestigio como de jóvenes talentos.

SANFIC3 tiene dos competencias: una internacional, en la que se incluyen películas de todo el orbe y otra latinoamericana, en la que sólo participan películas de la región. Además hay secciones de cine chileno, asiático, latinoamericano, francés, alemán, estadounidense, del medio oriente y un completo panorama internacional.Las actividades paralelas incluyen paneles, exposiciones y charlas dictadas por destacadas personalidades del quehacer cinematográfico nacional e internacional relacionadas al universo del cine, la industria y la cultura. También se sumarán proyecciones de cine en centros culturales periféricos de la ciudad.

En este contexto, SANFIC3 incluirá secciones como Talento Nacional, con una selección de cortometrajes nacionales realizados por las futuras promesas del cine chileno; una muestra-homenaje de siete videos de Juan Downey, denominada “Shoot the Shooter”; premieres especiales de cine chileno; una selección de películas premiadas con el fondo de coproducción alemán World Cinema Fund; un laboratorio de proyectos documentales; y un “work in progress” de cine chileno. ¡Los invitamos a vivir y disfrutar de SANFIC3!

The 11th Hour

The 11th Hour is a 2007 feature film documentary created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio on the state of the natural environment. Directed by Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners. Financed by Adam Lewis, Pierre André Senizergues and Doyle Brunson. Distributed by Warner Independent Pictures. World premiere at the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival. To be released August 17th 2007.

Leonardo DiCaprio's The 11th Hour is a feature length documentary concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and their impact on the planet. The film documents the cumulative impact of these actions upon the planet's life systems and calls for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity.
With the help of over fifty of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, the film documents the grave problems facing the planet's life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed, and their causes rooted in human activity. The combination of these crises call into question the very future not of the planet, but of humanity.
However, the most powerful element of The 11th Hour is not a portrait of a planet in crisis, but the offering of hope and solutions. Scientists and environmental advocates such as David Orr and Gloria Flora paint a portrait for a radically new and exciting future in which humanity seeks not to dominate the earth's life systems, but to mimic them and coexist. The 11th Hour calls for a future now within our grasp that is both sustainable and healthier.
